Holy Week Overview
Holy Week is the most sacred week in the Christian calendar. It remembers the final days of Jesus Christ’s life, leading to his crucifixion and resurrection. The week begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Holy Saturday, preparing believers to celebrate Easter Sunday.
Palm Sunday
Commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, when crowds welcomed him with palm branches and praised him as king.
Holy Monday – Holy Wednesday
These days recall Jesus teaching in Jerusalem, confronting religious leaders, and the growing opposition that led to his arrest and betrayal.
Maundy Thursday
Remembers the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples. During this meal he instituted Communion and washed the disciples’ feet, teaching humility and service.
Good Friday
A solemn day remembering Jesus’ suffering, crucifixion, and death on the cross.
Holy Saturday
Commemorates the day Jesus’ body rested in the tomb.
Easter Sunday
Celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the victory of life over death.
